Coastal Maine Day # 5 - Castine to Blue Hill, 74 miles, 3850' of climb

More beautiful scenery and weather on Day # 4. This was our longest day, so we were all a little more serious about covering some miles today.




Some of the roads in Maine were simply horrible. Here's me and my front wheel navigating some nasty asphalt.

Jett's sharp eyes caught sight of a real, live porcupine munching his way along the roadside. We stopped, and I approached from some photos. He seemed completely comfortable with me there. Finally he did look up and give me the stink eye - I ran off before he decided to unfurl his quiver at me...


I found some baby hogs with mama hog, happily grunting.

The famous Maine blueberries were in season while we were here. Saw them everywhere!

Not sure what a cattle pound was for, but this looked cool.


Simply beautiful.



Here's my view from the back of the van when Norman had to "transfer" us from one point to another. Today we transferred from Blue Hill to Bar Harbor. During the ride, Norman was looking away while a string of cars hit their brakes in front of us. Three of the passengers screamed and the rest of us jumped out of our seats. Then I had a fit of the giggles for about 10 minutes afterward. Relief stress? Not sure.


And here's our swanky new digs, the Harborside on the waterfront at Bar Harbor. A far cry from the delightful, small inns. Very nice with beautiful grounds. A short walk to the water. 


Gorgeous pool, but we were too busy cycling to use it.
