Coastal Maine Day 1 Continued

More scenes from the day. So many beautiful cemeteries. We live next to a cemetery in Sacramento. I have always loved them.

Jett liked this. (And wants to live by the ocean again.)

A little lumpy (hilly).

Lunch stop on the water. Loved seeing all our bikes together.

Small town legit - this is the real deal!

I had a birch beer. Similar to root beer. Quite nice.

Me and my dorky rear view mirror and my dorkier cat ears. I love love love the cat ears. They keep the wind noise to a minimum. A new must have.

The Big Toe at a rest stop.

Janie, who was unable to train, had to SAG in the rest of the day. The hills were no joke. We hit a 16% grade at one point. For anyone who hasn't been riding, long days in the saddle are tough and hills are impossible. Here's Janie' bike, Ghost, up on the van.

Lobster all the time. I shall try the famous lobster roll at some point.

Coastal Maine is quite woodsy.

We ended the ride in Pemaquid at the Bradley Inn. I love inns!

Our cute little room. We were in an outer structure - no internet access, thus the late blog updates. This became the usual for this trip.

Here's Jett's Garmin reading for the 2nd half of the day. Constant hills. And a fair number of them in the double digits. Thank goodness I had my hill training recently in Iowa. Jett and Janie suffered tremendously. Especially Janie. She did not train much at all. Climbing hills is extremely painful and slow on legs that are not conditioned for it. Poor Janie!

Some more shots of our coastal inn.

Here's James from Virginia and Jett/Janie at dinner that evening. It was nice to dine with the other riders each night. We really got to know and enjoy each other quickly.

Jett's first lobster dish of the trip!

I love the shake siding on these eastern seaside homes. I especially love the old and the new together.

This is my kind of lobster!

Thus ends a very challenging and hilly and beautiful Day 1 of the coastal Maine tour.
