Day 3 - 77 miles 4000 ft of climb

Well overall Janie and I had a great day. Janie broke her Sept 13th cycling curse, so we are happy about that. Jett had a hard time warming up and was fairly miserable all day. The weather was cold and foggy/cloudy all day as we road south on highway 101 along the coast. She hates this PNW weather, which is why she left Whidbey Island.

We are now in Bandon for 2 nights. Yay we get a one-day break from pitching our tents!!!

Gonna head in for dinner. Tummy is rumbly for food!

Day 2 - 101 miles / 3243 ft if climb

What a day. First if all I am an idiot. We has gorgeous hot weather yesterday, so we assumed we'd be warm today. After I was dressed in my shorts and a light vest and arm warmers, I felt a cool wind. My duffle bag was already packed and on the truck. I decided it would be too much of a hassle to go back, etc... All day I kicked myself because the weather was cold and I FROZE all day long.

We ride in nasty chip seal almost all day. We had a couple of climbs, with bone-jarring children descents. Jett made up a good chipseal song.

We froze to death at lunch at mile 58. The total mileage was scheduled as 90.5, but Janie wanted to do a full century. She's trying to do 100-mile rides in all 50 states. This was her chance to check off Oregon. So after 58 cold clammy miles, it was tough to know we'd be at it for another 42. Plus we still had to figure out where to ride the extra 10 miles.

Jett rode strong all day long, which is fitting because today is her birthday!

We cruised into Reedsport late in the afternoon. Janie and I got some local suggestions to ride out to Winchester Bay, which we did. After we found our bags and added more clothing layers!!!

We had a blast talking to the local fishermen. One guy caught 2 chinook salmon. One was 30 pounds, the other 40.

Back at camp, Jett got her birthday gift - a pair of Skins compression tights for post cycling recovery.

Now exhausted. We have over 75 miles and plenty of climb. Rest assured I will be bundled up as we will be on highway 101 mist if the day. 10% chance if rain tonight. Yuck!!!

Day 3 the fun is back!!

After a wet and gritty first 20 miles we dried off at the rest stop. We are now having a ball. Brad and I are having fresh donuts at the local Fred Meyer. Good to mix it up!

Pre Day 3

Cold and miz. Wet and drizz. Here's Jett at breakfast. We are in for a wet day along the coast. I am all bundled up!

Day 1 - numbers and berries

Let's talk about numbers. Here at CO, we are known by our number. Everything we do is assigned by our number which is placed on our wrists, our bags, and our bikes. I happen to have the perfect number: 100. Our new friend Brad is number 666. So we now simply refer to him as Satan.

Brad was referred to us by our Filsom cycling friend Mark, who met Brad on CO last year. Coincidentally I found out that Brad us good buddies with my So Cal cycling friend, John. Small small world!

Brad picked us some fresh wild blackberries today during Jett's hot foot break. He's a sweetheart and we love him already. Thanks for the hook-up, mark!

Day 1 - 70.4 miles / 4,486' of climb

Today was one of the best days of cycling ever. The weather was perfect, the roads were smooth (mostly), and the views were gorgeous. Best of all the friends were wonderful.

First if all we had to negotiate the packing of the jammed to the brim bags. Here are some shots. Then the local high school team loads our bags to the truck for $2! And we have a shot if Brad's special pink bag. More on Brad later. We gotta head to dinner.
