RAGBRAI Day 3 Continued - the Lance Experience

Hello All,

What an evening we had! Yesterday after I finished my blog entry, Brent and I headed back to camp to get Cathy and head out to the Styx concert. We wanted to leave a little early to visit the Expo also. Our campsite was adjancent to the LIVESTRONG Army campsite. Around 7 PM, I heard a cheer go up in that camp and I told Brent and Cathy, "Lance is there! Let's go!" and I sprinted over, worked my way through the throng and lo and behold, here was Lance, sitting in the middle of the group.

After this photo op with his "Army," Lance got up and everyone was milling around. Brent/Cathy (I was delirious with excitement, so I'm not sure) told me to get in there for a photo. I wormed my way in and the next thing I know, I'm standing next to freakin' Lance Armstrong. I told him that I loved him (I do) and (after I noticed his nice cologne) told him he smelled good (he did). Brent said he then proceeded to sniff his shirt, but I did not notice. Then Brent got Cathy in the photo and there you have it.

I left right away in order to give others the chance to experience the "High on Lance" feeling. Which lasted for me quite a while, let me tell you.

Then we took a shuttle way over to the other side of the campus to go to the Styx concert. Could life get any better? I bought myself a $5 hard lemonade (ouch) and we proceeded into the venue. It was packed with cyclists, but we found a safe spot not too far from the stage on the side. There was a metal barrier thing that I found I could sit on if I balanced carefully. From that vantage point, I had an excellent view of the band. They put on a great show. They sounded great, they were very entertaining, and they played all of my favorite songs. I had the best time! I thought "Renegade" would be my favorite song of the night (which they played as an encore), but really, the best turned out to be "Come Sail Away." The evening ended with a fireworks display.

We headed back to camp very happy campers.
