Coastal Maine Tour Day # 1 Boothbay to Pemaquid, 56 miles and 3208' of climb (!)

Ready to go on Day # 1 - so excited! The tour leader, Norman, aka "the Big Toe" of Summer Feet Cycling, will pick us up at 8:30

I am wearing my 2010 Levi Leipheimer's Gran Fondo cycling jersey for courage. This ride remains  the most bad ass I have ever completed (minus the double centuries - those go into a whole other category of pain and suffering). I wanted the King Ridge courage to start the unknown here in Maine.

This is the cool staircase at our waterfront hotel in Portland, Maine.

Funny ad in the local paper. Shoveling roofs? Is that a thing? Is it like frost heaves? Where am I??

Our Summer Feet van was a rental and lacked the personality of the Moronosaurus, alas. But it was functional and comfortably held the 8 of us and our bikes.

A quick potty stop on the way to the start!

Here's Jett finding her personality via 1st Red Bull of the morning and our new friend, Steve from Massachusetts.

The Big Toe himself. Norman. Also known as.... (we'll get to that later).

Me and Jettie = all smiles

The whole crew. With a group of 8, we all got to know each other quickly. This is James, Russ, Jennifer, Jettie, Laura, Joyce, and Steve. Janie must have been behind the camera on this one.

Beautiful right off the bat! And the weather was luscious...

Lobster traps - Maine really is all about lobster.  Lobster is ever present, be it pot buoys, traps, signs for live lobsters, lobster rolls... These "bugs" are everywhere~

Here's the group - checking the route. Norman gave us route sheets and maps each day. Worked out quite well, really.

Jett is having Janie the Great stop and pose with the Bender Racing sign for Dan the Man.

So many beautiful wild flowers along the roadsides.

And these gorgeous rock walls.

I have move photos to post - later!~!
